SMAT is an automated message service, but also continuous support to help you quit smoking. It’s free, and you have the option of signing up via Messenger or SMS to receive advice based on your quit date. With SMAT, you can even prepare for quitting by signing up for the preparation phase. You’ll receive around 15 messages over a 4-week period.
Once you’ve set a quit date, the SMAT program can support you over an 8-week period. A greater number of messages are sent in the first few weeks, decreasing over time. To continue the program over a longer period, you can participate in the maintenance phase for an additional 4 weeks of support.
Throughout this process, you can contact a smoking cessation specialist:
- by texting the word HUMAIN on the automated message service. Someone will get back to you within 24 to 48 hours
- by calling the I quit now line at 1 866 527-7383.
