The rise of social, political and cultural polarisation is increasingly affecting young people, particularly in college settings. Social media, media discourse and the circulation of conspiracy theories amplify these tensions, which result in radicalised positions, difficulty in engaging in dialogue and, in some cases, violent behaviour. These phenomena are not merely a matter of individual differences of opinion, but reveal deeper social divisions linked to inequality, exclusion and a quest for recognition.
