In accordance with the requirements of law P-22.1, higher education establishments have adopted a policy to prevent and combat violence of a sexual nature (VACS). One of the obligations under this law is to offer training on sexual violence to students and staff. Here are a few examples.

Université du Québec
Ten establishments in the réseau de l’Université du Québec have pooled their efforts to offer distance learning courses for the whole of the network’s university community. To date, four training courses have been developed.

Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM)
The Bureau d’intervention et de prévention en matière de harcèlement offers several sexual violence prevention courses for specific groups.
- Specific training for teaching staff: Incivilité, conflit et harcèlement en contexte d’enseignement: prévenir et intervenir.
- A 2-hour session for members of the UQAM community on the notion of the active witness and attitude during an unveiling.
It takes all of us: Mandatory Sexual Violence Awareness and Prevention Training
Université Concordia
Concordia University has introduced mandatory training on the recognition and prevention of sexual violence. Three modules are offered to students, faculty and staff.
- Introductory module: this module provides a definition and examples of sexual violence, as well as information and tools focusing on consent, bystander intervention and survivor support.
- Systems of Oppression and Intersectionality module: this module focuses on one of the root causes of sexual violence: systemic power and intersectionality.
- Recognizing Attitudes, Changing Behaviours module: this module addresses the normalization of attitudes and behaviors that encourage, minimize or trivialize sexual violence.
Prévenir les violences à caractère sexuel dans notre communauté universitaire
Université Laval
Université Laval’s mandatory training course on sexual violence includes several modules available online and is aimed at the entire university community.
- Prévenir les violences à caractère sexuel dans notre communauté universitaire (45 minutes): this module introduces Université Laval’s Policy to Prevent and Combat Sexual Violence and key definitions, such as consent and sexual violence. Specialists give advice on how to react to a risky situation and direct you to the resources you need.
- Other modules, lasting less than 20 minutes, present situations of sexual violence inspired by real events reported at various universities.
