Talking to someone can do a world of good. No matter the subject, there are a number of services available to help you express yourself and exchange ideas without being judged, as well as discovering other resources that can help you. If you don’t feel comfortable talking face-to-face on a listening line, you can use chat and text messaging with some organizations. It should be noted that services are often offered within specific time slots. To find out more, please refer to the information available on the organization’s website.

What happens when you call a helpline or use a chat or SMS service?

First, a counsellor or volunteer will take the time to listen and discuss with you what led to the difficulties you’re experiencing. This may not solve all your problems instantly, but just talking about them can help to ease your suffering, gain clarity and identify possible solutions. These services don’t deal with mental health problems, but you can take the time you need to feel better after the discussion.
