Many schools organize outings of varying lengths to give their students the opportunity to get to know themselves, develop social and emotional skills and discover their region. These activities are also sometimes integrated into credit courses.
A bonding activity in nature at Cégep de la Gaspésie et des Îles

Integration camp for new First Nations students at Cégep de Sept-Îles
Adapted canoe-camping activity at Collège Montmorency
In autumn 2024, nine students from Collège Montmorency with functional limitations enjoyed a weekend of canoe camping at Mont-Tremblant National Park as part of an adapted physical education course. To meet their specific needs, a team from the Learning Support Service accompanied them. Thanks to customised adjustments, such as adapting the canoe seats, these individuals not only enjoyed an enriching experience in the great outdoors, but also pushed their limits and developed social-emotional skills that will serve them well beyond this experience.
Indigenous gatherings at College Ahunstic
For sixteen years, Collège Ahuntsic has been organising Rencontres autochtones trips, an immersive experience that allows students to connect with the Atikamekw Nation. Participants discover the culture, knowledge and forest life practices of the Atikamekw, while reflecting on the historical and contemporary realities of Indigenous peoples. The entire experience is conducted in a spirit of listening, humility and mutual respect. The project, co-developed with Indigenous partners, is part of Collège Ahuntsic’s Indigenous inclusion and decolonisation initiative.
