This study, conducted among teaching staff at four cegeps in the Bas-Saint-Laurent region, highlights the important role that student mental health now plays in the day-to-day reality of college teaching. Based on an online survey of 92 faculty members and supplemented by 12 interviews, this research documents their perceptions, practices, and challenges regarding student mental health support, as well as their own mental health.

In particular, the results show that teachers believe they play an important role in identifying signs of distress, listening to students, and referring them to appropriate resources. However, they do not consider it their responsibility to intervene as mental health professionals. Referral to psychosocial services or academic support services is, in fact, the most frequently used support strategy.
