This article introduces the PAIE (high-impact practices) program, which is a professional development initiative for teaching staff at the Cégep de Shawinigan. Launched in 2021, the PAIE project was born of a desire by the Cégep de Shawinigan’s Direction des études to prioritize pedagogy and enable its teachers to take a reflective look at their practices. The project is structured around four components:
- Pedagogical relationship: Strengthen the teacher-student bond to create a positive learning climate.
- Pedagogical planning: Clarify learning objectives and structure courses effectively.
- Teaching strategies: Integrate active and collaborative methods to encourage student involvement.
- Learning assessment: Provide fair assessments and constructive feedback.
The program emphasizes a collaborative approach, encouraging participants to share experiences, explore new methods and integrate inclusive practices. It has also been the subject of an evaluation, the learnings from which have enabled adjustments to be made for future cohorts.
