This study aims to support the implementation of measures to promote the inclusion of students with disabilities in internships and job placements in Quebec’s health and social services network (RSSS). It will be conducted in three phases:
- assess the situation and needs
- implement and evaluate inclusion measures
- extend these measures to the entire network.
This report presents the results of the first phase, conducted in the Estrie region with the CIUSSS de l’Estrie – CHUS and the Université de Sherbrooke. Data was collected through a literature review, group interviews with various stakeholders (including managers and internship supervisors), and questionnaires administered to students and internship supervisors.
The study emphasizes that student success and inclusion are based on shared responsibility among students, internship sites, educational institutions, and the government. The results identified nine groups of recommendations, including:
- develop the skills of students with disabilities
- encourage disclosure of disability
- offer personalized support
- adjust the internship conditions
- support supervisors
- strengthen collaboration between communities
- promote a culture of equity, diversity, and inclusion.
