Mikana is a native organization who raises awareness of the realities and perspectives of Indigenous peoples. His initiative stems from a desire to take concrete action against racism and discrimination against aboriginal peoples, and helps to break down barriers between the indigenous and non-indigenous worlds.
On its website, Mikana presents its different fields of action:
- Partnerships and collaborations: support for environments wishing to implement significant changes (e.g. Collège Ahuntsic’s autochtonization process);
- Awareness-raising activities and tools: workshops, conferences, training courses, tool development;
- Resource bank: video clips on decolonization, glossary, terminology guide, podcasts, etc.
Mikana was also behind the creation of Decolonial toolbox offering an Educational Pathway to learn about the historical and contemporary realities of First Peoples and their expertise. Offered free of charge online, the trail brings together links to selected resources produced by Indigenous people and organizations.
