In a living library, books are people willing to share a page or chapter of their lives with a reader who “borrows” them for a short time. This type of activity reduces stigma and promotes a more nuanced and embodied understanding of mental health and mental health disorders. The concept is that of a classic library, with librarians, a catalog with short summaries of the books in stock, rules and regulations, and thematic decor.

The Association québécoise pour la réadaptation psychosociale has developed a guide to help organizations set up such activities in their campus.

This tool was presented at the Journées de transfert de connaissances sur la santé mentale étudiante, organized by ISMÉ in March 2024.
