The Mental Health Commission of Canada has produced this guide to better understand the suicide experience of African, Caribbean and Black (ACN) communities. The findings are drawn from a literature review and from the experiences of people with past and present experiential knowledge of suicide.
We present :
- the realities of people affected by suicide in ACN communities in Canada, in a broader context including stigma, systemic racism and systematic barriers to access.
- recommendations for policy makers, researchers and service providers to eliminate stigma, facilitate access to care and improve service delivery for people affected by suicide in ACN communities across Canada;
- suggestions for culturally adapted resources accessible to ACN community members concerned by suicide.
