Here are some awareness-raising initiatives implemented by higher education institutions to promote equity, diversity and inclusion (non-exhaustive list).

Since 2021, INRS has run an annual community awareness campaign to promote the recognition and inclusion of people from groups at risk of discrimination. Promotional material and a programme of activities accompany each edition of the campaign.

Collège Ahunstic

In 2022, Collège Ahunstic put this Web portrait online, including 150 short video clips exploring themes such as multiple identities, systemic discrimination, the need for Indigenous cultural safety, ally postures, resilience strategies and bodily and neurological diversity. The aim of this interactive tool is to encourage listening, reflection and dialogue through personal accounts, and to equip teaching staff to adopt approaches that will help students from different ethno-cultural, Aboriginal or LGBTQ2+ communities feel safe.

Video capsules on sexual and gender diversity

École de technologie supérieure

In 2022, ÉTS produced video vignettes in which students expressed their sexual orientation and gender identity in order to enrich knowledge and understanding of the various realities that exist. They highlight the importance of social support and inclusive environments in countering the harmful effects of discrimination experienced by LGBTQ+ people.

Paillettes et discussions activity

Collège de Rosemont

In 2021, Collège de Rosemont launched the first edition of the Paillettes et discussions. It’s an event that promotes diversity and openness in the LGBTQ+ community. Now in its second year, a number of higher education establishments have joined the initiative, with 42 CEGEPs and 5 universities taking part in the event.
