From November 4 to 22, 2024, the Observatoire sur la santé mentale étudiante en enseignement supérieur (OSMÉES) conducted the Enquête nationale québécoise sur la santé mentale étudiante en enseignement supérieur et ses déterminants: Temps pour soi. The objectives of the survey were to establish a portrait of student mental health and its evolution over time, to generate sub-population portraits that take into account the diversity of student populations, and to assess support needs, access to and use of psychosocial support services.
A total of 77 higher education institutions and 32,790 students took part. The preliminary results of this survey show that:
- Only 27.9% of student respondents have an optimal level of emotional well-being and psychological and social functioning.
- 42.9% of student respondents had probable generalised anxiety disorder (GAD).
- 46.6% of student respondents had a probable major depressive episode.
