In 2023, the Institut national de la recherche scientifique (INRS) undertook a structured internal evaluation of the support services offered to students. This process, initiated by the Service des études supérieures et de la réussite étudiante (SESRE), was developed in collaboration with and with the support of the Université du Québec – Siège social.
An initial phase, carried out in 2023, provided an opportunity for collective reflection on the intervention theory, the objectives, and the most relevant assessment tools, taking into account the specific realities of the INRS student population. Subsequently, an impact assessment was conducted among the student community that had received intervention services at SESRE during the 2024–2025 academic year.
This assessment raises five key questions:
- Who are the students who use these services?
- How satisfied are you with the services you received?
- Has the level of well-being among these students improved?
- Do recipients have more time to devote to their academic pursuits?
- What factors account for these results?

The results of this evaluation were presented at the Journées SME 2026.
Speaker:
- Elizabeth Doiron-Gascon, social worker and licensed immigration advisor for international students at INRS.
- Isabelle Queval, psychologist , INRS.
- Emilie Robert, evaluation consultant at the Université du Québec – Siège social and associate professor at the École nationale d’administration publique (ENAP).
