The report Walking the Tightrope: Students Struggle for Balance in Canada’s Precarious Post-Secondary Landscape by the Canadian Alliance of Student Associations (CASA) presents an analysis of the challenges faced by higher education students in Canada. Based on a survey of 1,500 students conducted between May 8 and 18, 2024, the report examines several aspects of student life in addition to mental health.
- Finance
- Jobs and employment
- Academics and learning
- International students
In relation to mental health more specifically, we report that :
1 in 3 students reported negative mental health outcomes in their previous semester, 17 percentage points higher than those from 2022. However, not all student demographic groups were impacted equally by these pressures. Those most likely to report poor mental health outcomes included : students living with a disability, low-income students (under $10,000), LGBTQI+ students, and students from visible minorities.
