The Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM) has developed a peer helper program for people living in student residences. Peer supporters are students who also live in the residences and are trained and supervised by psychological support professionals from UQAM’s Student Life Services.

Their role is to support and listen without judgment to their colleagues living in the residences during difficult times, and to refer them to resources as needed, whether inside or outside UQAM. Peer supporters are also present at certain activities organized for residents.
