A number of higher education establishments have made training available to students to help them recognise distress and, if necessary, refer them to resources for help. This type of training helps to identify the actions and attitudes that are most helpful in supporting a person experiencing difficulties.  

These initiatives generally take the form of an awareness-raising workshop lasting a few hours, after which people can be officially recognised as a member of a network of distress contacts.
