The SAP (health and psychosocial support) service at Collège Bois-de-Boulogne has put in place a number of strategies to intensify its collaboration with teaching staff. The aim: to multiply opportunities to raise awareness and develop mental health literacy among their student population, but also to support teaching staff in the support they offer.

Catalog BdeBien-être

The BdeBien-être Catalog offers a bank of activities (workshops, training courses, conferences and more) for teachers wishing to integrate this type of activity into their lesson plans. More than twenty workshops on various themes are available, including :

  • Stress management techniques
  • Performance anxiety
  • The impact of thoughts on academic progress
  • Healthy relationship
  • Sexual violence
  • Inclusion, equity and diversity
  • Etc.

Some activities are provided directly by the SAP service and the other Archipel services at Collège Bois-de-Boulogne, while others are organized in collaboration with specialized organizations on subjects such as eating disorders, racism, urban safety, and so on. The catalog is distributed to all teaching staff, who can fill in a form to express their interest in the activities. Where appropriate, they are then contacted to plan and organize the chosen activities.

Volunteer experience at BdeB Écoute

BdeB Écoute is a support network made up of students and staff who are trained to listen to students in need and refer them to the appropriate resources.  This network also has a mandate to raise awareness in the Boulonnais community on various themes such as interculturalism, the culture of consent, and psychological and physical health. As part of their integration course, which requires students to acquire volunteer experience, the teaching staff of the Humanities department can take advantage of BdeB Écoute’s structure. Whether it’s a kiosk, a podcast or something else, their students can develop an activity in line with the themes of the mutual aid network. BdeB Écoute managers or experienced peer helpers then play a supervisory role in this experience.

Production of a brochure on eating disorders and sale of candy, with proceeds going to ANEB Québec.
Example of a volunteer experience: Interactive kiosk on the theme of consent

Creation of a poster on mental health in the Integration and Multimedia program

These sheets identify points of reference that make it easier to understand these situations, and can provide guidance as to the attitudes and words to encourage and the actions to take. They are distributed in teachers’ pigeonholes and by e-mail, and are also used in training sessions on student mental health offered by the SAP department. Here are a few examples.

Information sheets for teachers

The SAP service provides teaching staff with fact sheets to help them deal with the various situations their students may encounter, including :

  • How do I deal with a student who panics during an assessment?
  • How to deal with a student in distress?

These sheets identify points of reference that make it easier to understand these situations and can provide guidance on the attitudes and words to encourage and the actions to take. They are distributed in teachers’ pigeonholes and by e-mail, and are also used in training sessions on student mental health offered by the SAP department.
