This research report stems from the Regroupement des bibliothèques collégiales du Québec’s desire to answer the following question: what stress and anxiety management activities and services are offered to students in college libraries?

A literature review was carried out, and 35 libraries from the Quebec college network were contacted to respond.

Here are a few observations.

  1. The vast majority of libraries organize stress and anxiety management activities in response to a perceived need among students, even before the request comes from management.
  2. Library space and its enhancement top the list of services offered in college libraries.
  3. Bean bags, mandalas, puzzles and origami are available to students in a large number of libraries.
  4. Nearly 30% of college libraries surveyed have light therapy lamps.
  5. 23% of libraries surveyed have already offered a pet therapy activity.
