Physical spaces can have an impact on the mental health of the student population on campus. Students spend long hours studying or working, alone or in groups, on campus in places such as libraries, classrooms, and laboratories. In these circumstances, noisy and hectic environments can be detrimental to their motivation, concentration, and mental health. They need access to bright, quiet environments.

The layout of the premises is also important in encouraging healthy lifestyles. For example, the opportunity to go to a nearby park, breathe fresh air, observe nature, engage in physical activity, or make healthy choices in terms of nutrition and physical activity can help reduce stress.

Finally, physical spaces that encourage more opportunities for social interaction between students on campuses and in residences can encourage peer support and enable a better balance between studies and social life.
