The Réseau d’entraide étudiant de Brébeuf (REEB) aims to prevent distress in the various living environments of the student population. Every year, around 20 to 25 people take part on a voluntary basis, with the aim of interacting empathetically with their peers. Participants receive several training courses or opportunities throughout the year to develop their helping skills. Here are a few examples.
- Basic self-help training (empathy, reception, listening and referral skills, ethical attitudes and confidentiality) lasting 7 hours (lunchtime, spread over 3 weeks).
- Participation in Apprenti-sage meetings (an activity for REEB peer supporters to share and help each other), led by a facilitator.
- A 5 to 7 networking meeting where stakeholders meet REEB students.
The REEB also organises awareness-raising activities, in the form of conferences, for the student community. These focus on issues relating to mental health and support for people experiencing difficulties.
